Previous Next Rethinking the Amphitheatre Area Email Semester Competition Name Student Name Abhishek Suryavanshi DAC - Academy's Recess - Rethinking Amphitheatre Area IV abhisheks19@aoamumbai.in : : : : : : : Competition Brief: Academy's Recess proposes the generation of architectural ideas for outdoor activities for the institution's amphitheatre area while retaining the original functionality of the space. Interaction and Activity in a natural environment is the key focus of the competition. Narrative: The amphitheater is one of the most activated public spaces on the campus of AOA. It’s an inclusive space in the presence of diversity. Here, students collect their shared memories during academics and it also represents the culture of the academy. Mapping of different activities within the amphitheater helped me to develop the primary idea of enhancing the built space. Considering all the activities in the amphitheater , the proposal put forward is to maintain and enhance the active ,cultural, inclusive and interactive qualities of space. The attempt was to thus develop a context which facilitates interaction. The space near the stationary is taken because of its active nature , where the small multipurpose space is created with some wood cubes made of existing timber of fallen trees. These cubes don't have any specific function and are placed to create ambulatory, imperfect and impermanent context for interaction. The 2nd intervention is to change the entire context of the dead corner space and make it more functional and interactive. The intention was to create more space for campus to use, by just modifying the existing plains.

Richa Raut, Ar. Saurabh Jain, Ar. Rohit Karekar, Ar. Shekoba Sanap : : : : : : : : : : : The brief and the site both were very nature-centric, hence it became necessary to create a link between humans and nature through a built form that will benefit both, rather than cause harm to one another. So digging deeper into this came an understanding that nothing in nature comes directly into existence rather it grows and evolves through time. A similar process is observed in humans as well. Thus the project aimed at creating a platform for the symbiotic development or GROWTH of both humans and nature. Furthermore, various categories of growth were listed down including – physical growth, spiritual, regenerative, supplementary, communal, and environmental growth. While zoning of activities, the communal growth with the community included spaces such as amphitheater and workshop area and spiritual growth where the focus is on oneself with activities like yoga, meditation and camping form the main link while others root out of this. The build includes a sleeping area, rainwater harvesting, and solar energy where natural sources are replenished. The form designed aids in the aim of sustainability, so the roof is designed to respond to factors such as sun shading, ventilation, rainwater harvesting, etc. All the materials are locally sourced making them economically viable. The structural layers have brick walls with bamboo columns connected to the wall or supporting the rafters with the bamboo network that hold the shingles in places. It helped us to visualize various texts in a graphical format and represent it tactfully. The main focus of exercise was representation and detailing, which can be put into the composition of a A3 sheet to be viewed as an encyclopedia spread. Alignment, text sizes, fonts, color schemes, margins and gaps were taken into consideration while designing our spread for the same. Previous Next Pancakes

Anuradha Shah , Ar. Venkat Ashok, Ar. Pradeep Pavithran : : : : : : : : : : : Colonists set up farms where lawful citizens had only one job of producing. The city had a high crime rate, and slavery was prevalent. The people of Mos Eisley were poor and had poor living conditions with negligible healthcare facilities. Although the movie showcases the advancements in technology, the lifestyle of the inhabitants was very laid back. The dwellings were mostly clay and gypsum. The challenges while designing spaces include the harsh climate of Tatooine, traditional construction methods, incorporating different scales according to the program and interventions. The core themes of the project were Gestalt's Principles of Perception, creating and exploring ambiguity between figure and ground, solid and void, novelty and history, and curiosity and recognition. An exploration in mass and void allows various levels of enclosure, openness, recognition and blending habitable and interstitial spaces creating a certain sense of transparency to improvise constructive interaction between different species living together. Varying psychologies result in respective space planning and spatial behaviours. Decoding and incorporating them with addition and subtraction in volume according to program and functionality resulted in interesting form modulations. THE INTENT: This project allowed the people of Tatooine to sell products like farm produce or spare parts of machines and robots, hence giving them a source of income. Since slavery is prevalent in the city, slave quarters have been provided with workshop areas to provide a means of living and sell their machine alternate slaves (robots) to the owner and get their freedom. Part 2: To Create a folded plate origami by taking inspiration from nature. The motive was also to understand that within nature there are many folded structural forms that are stable and can withstand loading under different conditions. Furthermore, to place the created origami structure in a speculative architectural manifestation. Folded Plates 1

This simple question led to developing an Activity-based workplace’ approach with work-life balance, network learning, Interactions, and a sense of community. An Activity-based workplace aids in one’s personal and collaborative growth. It is a mix of open, semi-open, and private spaces for each user. Thus, having connectivity as well as buffers, nooks, and niches, level of privacy, and proximity of spaces considering the needs of all users was crucial. Situated on Topea island of Bora Bora islands, the site is a tropical wonder. It overlooks the lagoon water and the mighty mount Otemanu backing it. The Design derives cues from topography, vegetation and then tries to integrate them with Spaces and Netflix’s work philosophy. This results in an amorphous structure with varied volumes and space qualities making it fun and functional for the users. The project focuses on accessibility, inclusivity, and socio-economic fundamentals. The Design also delves into Interior Architecture, Landscape architecture, and Structural design in detail to bring out the best for the client. Previous Next Corporate Den By Netflix.Inc 1

Over the years, many narratives of India have been told. Their accounts, often biased, glorify the powerful and omit tales of others, thereby only offering a myopic (limited) insight into the stories of our people. This studio carries forward the learnings from ‘Objects Mumbai' where the research cell at AOA identifies, observes, and analyzes everyday objects in Mumbai and their role in the narrative of the city. 75 OBJECTS OF INDEPENDENT INDIA
