Colonists set up farms where lawful citizens had only one job of producing. The city had a high crime rate, and slavery was prevalent. The people of Mos Eisley were poor and had poor living conditions with negligible healthcare facilities. Although the movie showcases the advancements in technology, the lifestyle of the inhabitants was very laid back. The dwellings were mostly clay and gypsum. The challenges while designing spaces include the harsh climate of Tatooine, traditional construction methods, incorporating different scales according to the program and interventions. The core themes of the project were Gestalt's Principles of Perception, creating and exploring ambiguity between figure and ground, solid and void, novelty and history, and curiosity and recognition.
An exploration in mass and void allows various levels of enclosure, openness, recognition and blending habitable and interstitial spaces creating a certain sense of transparency to improvise constructive interaction between different species living together. Varying psychologies result in respective space planning and spatial behaviours. Decoding and incorporating them with addition and subtraction in volume according to program and functionality resulted in interesting form modulations.

THE INTENT: This project allowed the people of Tatooine to sell products like farm produce or spare parts of machines and robots, hence giving them a source of income. Since slavery is prevalent in the city, slave quarters have been provided with workshop areas to provide a means of living and sell their machine alternate slaves (robots) to the owner and get their freedom.
