National Water Mission is mounted to ensure integrated water resource management helping to conserve water, minimize wastage and ensure more equitable distribution both across and within states. The Mission takes into account the provisions of the National Water Policy and develop a framework to optimize water use by increasing water use efficiency by 20% through regulatory mechanisms. The goals of the water mission are to provide comprehensive water database in public domain and assessment of impact of climate change on water resource and to increase the water use efficiency by 20%. The Jal Shakti Abhiyan was started with the aim of maximum participation of people, by creating programs to make check dams, water harvesting pits, repairing of step wells, etc.
