The enclosure of the port, the shoreline and the cityscape of Beirut was leading to a social unrest among the people of Beirut. The aim is to create a new cityscape that offers the citizens an ownership of the place by creating permeable spaces that can be used to house all sorts of social activities to increase social bonding and unity. This can help people to locate the port from the city as well as from the shore. The design of the Beirut Port is based on the main idea of making it human centric and aims to establish a relationship between what is lost and the remains of the explosion, which will help in giving a new identity to the port. The intent is to use architecture as a medium to foster the economy. The programs are mainly divided into two parts : The port and the public programs. In the public sector, Maritime institute is introduced in order to increase the awareness of the functioning of the port and to provide employment along with the residential institute with the language of using terraces and kinetic facade to help in increasing the sociability of the structure.
