The proposed design intervention at the Academy’s Amphitheatre aims to enhance the quality of space, student-faculty interaction, and at the same time provide a soothing space for all. The current issues existing in the amphitheater are the lack of seating spaces and the deterioration of the overall quality due to lack of maintenance and some spaces being used for dumping or storage of unwanted materials/objects.
The initial thought was to redesign the seating around the tree which has been an integral part of the institution’s history. The new proposed seating is expanded a bit radially and notches have been made to accommodate more people to sit. The plinth is designed as free flowing space which is symbolic to liberal and free minds of the students. This space will allow for more interaction between the students and faculty at the time of lectures or discussions.The proposed canopy over the plinth is to provide a shade so that it can be used throughout the day.The canopy is to be made from paper tubes coated with wax which are supported by a steel frame.
